Have you ever laughed before you realized something was
funny?
Or felt your shoulders drop the moment you stepped
outside?
Or caught yourself humming without even thinking about
it?
That’s your body remembering joy before your mind
catches up.
The Body Knows First
Your body is wise.
It feels joy as warmth, openness, breath, expansion.
It knows when something is good for you long before your
brain analyzes it.
Joy often begins as a sensation, not a thought.
How Stress Blocks Joy
When we’re stressed, our bodies brace.
Jaw tight.
Shoulders up.
Breath shallow.
Chest closed.
In that state, joy has a hard time getting in.
Not because it’s gone but because the door is shut.
Movement as a Doorway to Delight
Movement is one of the quickest ways to reopen that door.
● A gentle stretch
● A slow walk
● A sway in the kitchen
● A deep breath
● A long exhale
Movement tells your nervous system, “You’re safe now. You can soften.”
And when you soften, joy returns.
A Simple Embodiment Practice
Try this:
● Place your hand on your heart
● Inhale for 4
● Exhale for 6
● Notice where joy lives in your body today
Your body is not the enemy.
It’s the messenger.
And joy is one of its favorite languages.
