(1 Corinthians 13:4a, TPT)
In The Passion Translation, Paul describes love as a
powerful, active force.
Love is patient, gentle, and consistently kind.
It refuses to be jealous, boastful, or self‑focused.
It doesn’t manipulate, shame, or keep score.
Love is safe it doesn’t get irritated or easily offended.
It celebrates honesty, not injustice.
It never stops believing the best, never quits, never loses
hope, and never gives up on anyone.
Love remains steady, loyal, and full of faith no matter what
comes.
When we think of love, we often think about how well we
love others. But today, I want to remind us that it has to
start with us. How well are we loving ourselves?
Are we patient with ourselves on the way to our becoming?
Are we patient when we skip the gym, watch more TV than
we meant to, or find ourselves doom‑scrolling again?
Are we gentle with ourselves when we step on the scale?
Are we consistently kind to ourselves when we look in the
mirror?
Are we jealous of what others have, their results, their
workouts, their diet, their business?
Are we boastful or self‑focused? Maybe not… but I bet
many of us swing to the opposite side and undervalue our
accomplishments, putting our own needs last.
Do we shame ourselves? I bet we do, more than we even
realize. We often talk to ourselves in ways we would never
speak to a friend.
Love is safe.
Do we love ourselves the way we love a family member or
a dear friend? Probably not. We usually struggle with this.
We think it’s selfish… but it’s not.
We can only love others from our overflow.
Self‑love is not selfish — it’s nourishing, kind,
empowering, and necessary.
Today, I want you to think of three things you love about
yourself , or could love about yourself if you allowed it. Jot
them down. Remind yourself of these things often this
week. And begin to notice the things you tell yourself.
