The new year has always been a natural time to pause
and reflect on where we’ve been, where we are, and
where we want to go. Traditionally, that reflection takes
the form of New Year’s resolutions:
“This is the year I’ll get in shape.”
“This is the year I’ll write that book.”
“This is the year I’ll start my own business.”
“This is the year I’ll finally save money.”
You know the ones. If you’re anything like me, you’ve
made them year after year only to quietly abandon them
by March.
Dreams get dusty, don’t they? Life has a way of
crowding out our best intentions. Routines become ruts.
We settle into the familiar, even when it no longer lights
us up.
That’s why I’ve fallen in love with choosing a focus word
instead. One word. One intention. A gentle anchor we
can return to daily, even hourly to guide how we want to
live.
This year, my word is wonder.
Wonder has the power to spark joy and inspiration. It
disrupts the monotony of everyday life. Curiosity can
reignite old dreams and breathe life into places where
complacency once lived.
So I wonder…
How can we shake up our day today?
What if we drove a different route to work, ordered
something new at our favorite coffee shop, or called a
friend we haven’t seen in ages? What if we finally made
plans to see that play or concert we’ve always talked
about?
Be curious about what’s working in your schedule and
what’s not.
Wonder how even one small shift might inspire you or
make you feel more alive, more free.
I wonder what life might look like if we made this a daily
practice: to be curious. To be seekers of joy. Of
gratitude. Of wonder.
Have you chosen a focus word for the year? I’d love to
hear it, it might just inspire a future monthly blog post
series!
With curiosity and joy,
Tami
