I love this time of year so much. My heart is always filled
and overflowing with gratitude and excitement.

I remember when all the kids were little, and I’d wait for
that one special Christmas moment. You know the one:
when everyone got along for the briefest of moments,
laughter echoed under the tree, and they all headed to bed
in the same room, because that’s just what they did. I’d
exhale and think, Yes. This is what I’ve been waiting for all
season. Peace. Nostalgia. Memory-making.

I’d line the kids up on the stairs Christmas morning to take
pictures, while my husband grabbed the garbage bags for
wrapping paper and I poured our first cups of coffee.
Christmas MAGIC.

Our Christmases look so different now. Each year brings
change. Our family has grown, more have been added to
the fold but we’re spread out, living far from one another.
Some Christmases have felt less magical than others. But I
still look for it. I just find magic in different places now.

People seem friendlier at the store. The city lights twinkle.
Storefronts glow. The crisp scent of snow lingers in the air.
That first bottle of Chambord I buy reminds me that our
special tradition lives on.

Part of living in overflow is adjusting expectations and
flowing with the changing seasons. Some years we’ve
traveled. Some years we’ve seen only one of our children.
And others, few and far between…we’ve seen several. But it’s been over twelve years since we’ve all been under one
roof for Christmas.

Overflow is a practice. It’s about being intentional with what
we choose to live with. Intentional with our gratitude.
Intentional about moving toward the kind of life we want,
knowing what we can and cannot control.

This holiday season, my heart is overflowing with gratitude
for you all. Thank you for walking this journey with me.

Wishing you a very Merry Christmas,
Tami
